Q:  What is the responsibility of a deacons wife?
A:  Consent to her husbands ordination.

As a deacon’s wife I am often asked what we do since we are not ordained?  In the Archdiocese of Omaha wives attend weekly formation classes, monthly spirituality Saturdays and any other deacon related event during the year.  It is truly a blessing to see Chris on the altar assisting at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. 

Ordained to Preach

There are five deacons at our parish and 3 aspiring men in formation.  Once a month the deacons have the opportunity to preach.  Brilliant and straightforward Chris delivers his love for the faith in an easy style that most everyone enjoys.  Humor, love and history in compass his homilies for 5 – 7 minutes.

What else do they do?

“hatch ‘em, match ‘em, and dispatch ‘em”  Deacons can baptise, witness marriages and preside at funerals.  Of course if Eucharist accompanies any of the sacraments it is necessary for a priest to celebrate.
